Protect a place to prepare food
Pick the working area
Decide where chopping, mixing, or packing lunches actually happens. Clear that area first. Move items that belong elsewhere out of the kitchen instead of finding them a better spot on the counter. The useful result is a clear work surface when you need it.
Sort by frequency
Keep the appliances you genuinely use often accessible. Move occasional equipment to a reachable cupboard if lifting it is manageable. Do not tuck plugged-in appliances into enclosed spaces unless the manufacturer permits it. Keep heat, ventilation, cords, and water in mind.
Contain one routine
A tray can collect coffee supplies or dish-cleaning items, but it should not become a new pile. Choose a tray that is easy to lift and clean. Keep it outside the main prep area and avoid adding decorative objects that make the routine harder.
Use a closing reset
At the end of the day, return stray items, wash what blocks the workspace, and put tomorrow’s essentials where they belong. If the counter refills immediately, the nearby storage may be inconvenient. Change the location of a frequently used item before buying more containers.
