Untangle the setup

01

Identify before disconnecting

Shut down equipment as appropriate and identify each cable before moving it. Label similar plugs if that makes future changes easier. Remove unused cables from the workspace and inspect what remains for damage. Replace damaged equipment rather than concealing it.

02

Separate power from storage

Follow the equipment manufacturer’s guidance for routing and ventilation. Avoid pinching cords under furniture, covering power equipment, overloading outlets, or linking power strips together. Leave connections accessible so a device can be disconnected without dismantling the whole desk.

03

Allow movement

Leave enough slack for a laptop to move and for an adjustable desk to travel through its range. Reusable ties can hold a loose group without crushing cables. If using an under-desk tray, check its mounting method, desk thickness, and the weight it is designed to carry.

04

Keep the floor manageable

Route cables away from feet and chair wheels while keeping them visible enough to inspect. Test the arrangement through a normal work session. When you add a device, follow the existing route rather than dropping another lead across the floor.
